Map and GPS / Errors

Null Island guard #

Null Island is the common name for point 0,0. In entomological data, such a point almost always means an error, not a real site.

Where 0/0 comes from #

On phones, especially Android, the system picker can pass a photo without real GPS, or with zeroed EXIF fields. In that case the metadata shows 0/0.

What ENTOMONE does #

ENTOMONE rejects such GPS and does not create a record out in the ocean at point 0,0. You should use phone GPS, choose a file with full EXIF, or correct the point on the map.

How to avoid the problem #

The safest option is to take the photo with the camera launched from the form, or to use a file from Google Drive. If you choose a photo from the local gallery, check whether the GPS was actually passed with it.
